February 23, 2025 Pre-trip

  Just four days before we leave for our cruise on Celebrity Constellation from Tampa, Florida. The first cruise of eight nights will be in the Gulf of Mexico (or if President Trump gets his way - Gulf of America). Followed by a seven night cruise along the eastern coast of Mexico, Honduras and Belize.

    It was Mardi Gras in New Orleans today. The sun managed to break through the thin lawyer of cloud for a few minutes several times during the morning. At 7:30 a.m. the temperature was 17°C with a south wind at 19 km. The forecast is for a high 25°C, windier and a good chance of afternoon rain which put the Mardi Gras parades on an accelerated schedule, starting at 7 a.m. rather than 8 a.m.    We had quick breakfast at a table for two in the Deck 4 main dining room so that we could be off the ship by 8:30 a.m. to go to the Garden District, an historic section of Uptown New Orleans.   There were not a lot of people trickling in to the dining room, maybe three dozen by the time we departed. Being Shrove Tuesday, we had pancakes for breakfast. March 2, 2025 Sea Day #1

    It was our first Sea Day on Celebrity Constellation in the Gulf of Mexico (or Gulf of America if U.S. President Trump gets his way). The clocks were moved back an hour overnight.   At 7:30 a.m. Constellation had cruised 200 nautical miles averaging about 12.7 knots and there were just 250 nautical miles left to arrive in New Orleans tomorrow morning about 9 a.m.      The sun was shining. There was a barely noticeable rock to the ship from the gentle swelling of   the 1.5 meter waves.    We went to the Elite Loyalty member breakfast on the upper level of the San Marco dining room (Deck 5) at 8 a.m. where we were joined by Shawn & Graham from Burlington, Ontario, and Muriel and Phil from Tampa. Included were Mimosas, Bellinis and other “breakfast” cocktails and different kinds of espresso coffees. We ordered one of the breakfast cocktails and enjoyed the Continental breakfast.
